It has been a difficult few weeks for the people of Hispaniola. Hurricane Melissa brought two weeks of storms and flooding to the Dominican Republic.
But we have incredible news: all 29 of our widows are safe and weathered the storm, thanks be to God.
I just arrived in the Dominican Republic yesterday to prepare for an exciting week ahead. In just 3 days, our team of five arrives to serve alongside me.
Together, we’ll host Bible studies, meet new widows on our waiting list, and finalize the details for our brand-new 6-month Literacy Program designed to help our widows learn to read and write.
Please pray for safe travels – especially that flights aren’t impacted – and for open hearts as we share God’s Word with women who are waiting to experience His love.
This past weekend, we had the honor of speaking at Harvest Hill Church in Midlothian, TX, as they officially welcomed For the Widow as a ministry partner.
I want to thank each of you. Your prayers, your generosity, and your faithfulness make this work possible. Thank you for sacrificing to give.
All 29 Widows are sponsored and receiving support!
At the start of 2025, we faced a bit of a challenge.
Nine widows from a different ministry were suddenly without support – right as we were adding nine more women to our ministry. We stepped in immediately, providing food and care even as our resources were stretched thin.
Today, we’re thrilled to announce that all 29 widows in our program are fully sponsored and receiving the support they need.
And we’re ready to grow!
Next week, our team will meet new widows from our waiting list. Stay tuned for updates as God continues to expand this work.

Help a widow Learn to Read:
Many of the widows in our ministry never had the chance to learn to read or write.
Without this basic skill, daily life becomes an uphill battle – from reading a Bible verse to helping a grandchild with homework or even signing their own name.
Our Widow’s Literacy Program is changing that story.
Imagine Nosilia, who couldn’t read her Bible, now reading Scripture to her grandchildren. That’s the transformation we’re working toward.
Over the next six months, we’ll provide consistent, small-group instruction designed to build confidence and measurable progress.
Our goal? To empower every widow with the ability to read and write – unlocking opportunities for lifelong learning, personal growth, and greater independence.
New Partnership With Harvest Hill Church
We’re thrilled to announce a new church partnership with Harvest Hill Church in Midlothian, TX!
Church partners are essential to For the Widow Ministries, and we’re so grateful for the leaders and members of Harvest Hill who have answered the biblical call to care for widows.
Lead Pastor, Kirk Coffman, shared how he had been rethinking their missions strategy over the past few years. They began supporting ministries caring for orphans and those in poverty, but as he read James 1:27, he realized they needed to support a ministry caring for widows, too.
In God’s perfect timing, our board member Shelbi Garcia – a member of Harvest Hill – was able to connect us, and a new partnership was born.
Harvest Hill will support For the Widow financially on a monthly basis and will join us on a mission trip in July 2026.
Praise the Lord for church partners who pray, give, and go! Thank you Harvest Hill, Pastor Coffman, and all of your congregation for welcoming For the Widow.
Does your church want to partner with us? We’d love to connect with pastors and ministry leaders who feel called to care for widows.
A Vision For the Future: The Widow's Empowerment Center
As we shared in our last newsletter, we’ve been praying and planning for something big.
Over the past year, it’s become clear just how valuable it would be to have a central space where all of our widows can gather. A place for fellowship, Bible study, educational programs, and safety during storms or difficult seasons.
Out of that vision, the Widow’s Empowerment Center was born.
This center will serve as a home base for the ministry in the DR, allowing us to do even more for our widows than ever before.
Our literacy program is getting ready to launch and will be piloted in small groups across individual communities.
Imagine what we could do if all of our widows could meet together in their very own center – designed specifically for their needs.
Now multiply that vision across the years ahead. That’s the dream.
We’re asking you to join us in prayer as we:
Find and purchase the right land – TOP PRIORITY!
Finalize the details of what the center will look like
Prepare to break ground in the near future
Stay tuned for updates!
How you can get involved:
There are so many ways to be part of what God is doing through For the Widow.
Your giving provides food, medicine, transportation, Bibles, and so much more – but most importantly, it reminds each widow that she is loved and cherished.
Whether you give monthly, sponsor a widow, or give when you’re able, we want you to know that 100% of every dollar is used with care and purpose.
We’re committed to being faithful stewards of the resources God provides through people like you.
