May 2025 Update

Exciting things are happening at For the Widow, and we are happy to bring you some important updates that show the impact your support is having in the lives of our widows, their families, and their communities!

We have a team of 22 people leaving this Saturday, June 21, for our summer mission trip, including 15 teens and 7 adults. Please pray for safe travels, no hurricanes, and open hearts to hear God’s word. We are anticipating over 200 women and 500 children in bible study!

The ministry truck that we purchased in March has had a huge impact on the lives of the widows and our staff. Read more below! We have 5 widows who still need to be sponsored so they can receive the financial support they desperately need. Please read their stories and prayerfully consider how you can help.

One Truck, Countless Connections: A New Chapter in Widow Ministry

This past month has been a beautiful testament to the power of community and faith within our widows ministry. Our Program Director, Miqueas, has been visiting our widows each month, sharing the gospel and providing regular support. However, this month brought a special moment, thanks to the new ministry truck we purchased in March, which has made a significant difference in our outreach efforts.

For the first time, Miqueas was able to transport widows from the communities of Los Robles and Canoa to Mena Arriba for a joint Bible study. This was a remarkable experience, as it allowed the widows to come together, share fellowship, and experience the joy of community. One of our widows, Carmen, expressed her excitement about visiting Mena Arriba (only 15 minutes away from her own community), a place she had always wanted to see but never had the opportunity to visit. It’s a powerful reminder of how something as simple as transportation can open doors to new experiences and connections.

In another beautiful example, Miqueas took two widows, Elena and Mada Yony, who speak Haitian Creole, to visit Elvira, a 91-year-old widow who rarely leaves her home due to mobility issues. The visit brought immense joy to Elvira because it was the first time she had the opportunity to meet other widows from our program.

These experiences are a beautiful reminder of how our ministry truck has become more than just a vehicle — it’s a lifeline that brings us together, fosters connections, and enriches our faith journey. Thank you for your continued support!

Widow Updates

Now that we have 29 widows in the program, it is challenging to provide an update on every widow, as it would result in a novel rather than an email. Each month, we will highlight a few widows and share their stories, as well as ways you can pray for them.

Carmen’s Pain Eased Thanks to Your Support

Carmen has been experiencing some extreme pain throughout her body. As a part of her sponsorship, we were able to take her to an internal medicine doctor, who then referred her to an orthopedic surgeon. The visit with the orthopedist resulted in several tests and medication that have given her relief. We are still waiting on the final diagnosis for Carmen, so please pray for her as we continue to follow doctors’ orders for her!

A Clearer View for Morena

Morena has been having issues with her eyes. She gets dizzy often, so we took her to the eye doctor to get her eyes checked. It turns out her glasses prescription is very old! We were able to get her a new pair of glasses in hopes that this will solve the issues she has been experiencing.

New Widows for Sponsor

Julia is a friendly woman with a wonderful smile. She lives in a small pod with 3 other homes in the mountains of Santa Elena. She grows bananas in her beautiful backyard, which is in the midst of lush greenery and beautiful trees. She raises two of her grandchildren at her home.

Morena is a gentle, loving woman who lives with 6 of her children and helps care for 9 of her grandchildren. This group of 16 lives in a single house with very little income to support them, yet they keep their spirits up together. She attends church regularly. She has a small store in her home where she makes and sells food to generate a little income. While she is very small in stature, she loves the Lord, her family, and neighbors.

Mella is a modest but friendly woman. Her real name is Rosa, but her nickname is Mella, meaning twin, because she has a twin sister. Mella is committed to sharing her faith with others. She wakes up early in the morning and goes to sing on the street corners and share the Gospel. Her son recently built her a new home, which has improved her living conditions. They have also converted her old home into a small church where she shares the Gospel.

Carmen is a quiet, caring woman who lives with her 3 sons. One of her sons was able to build her a better home than her previous one, but she is still in need. Her sister lives nearby and is also a widow. They spend time together often.

Trip Update

Please pray for our team as we prepare to leave for the Dominican Republic tomorrow, Saturday, June 21. We have 22 participants on this trip, our largest team ever, including 15 teenagers. We will be visiting the widows, sharing the Gospel in the community, and hosting Bible studies for the widows and youth.

Recently, our team came together to prepare for the trip. We spent the day building each other up through team-building exercises, practicing how to share the Gospel, and learning to tell our personal testimonies with confidence. It was a powerful time of growth and connection as we get ready to step into what God has planned.

We ask for your prayers for safe travels, a healthy team, and most importantly that the Lord will work in mighty ways!
